How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years?
The biggest difference is how much better Google has gotten at identifying ‘cheap tricks’. 10 years ago you could get away with jamming keywords and indiscriminately link to and from shady sources. These days the focus is on creating content that is well organized, easy to skim, links with a variety of established sources, and takes advantage of multiple types of media.
How did you get introduced to digital marketing, more specifically SEO?
Because as my job at Agency Revolution evolved it became more and more necessary to pick up and utilize these skills.
What are the services you provide to your clients?
Agency Revolution trains our clients to understand the basics of good SEO – and that it really comes down to consistently posting well organized content that their marketplace will find valuable.
What strategy according to you will prevail in 2017 for SEO?
The same strategy that worked 5 years ago and that will work 5 years from now. Consistent updates, well organized content, designed to be easy to skim (e.g. good use of headlines, bolded and/or italic text, paragraph breaks, images, etc.). Always use a variety of media, try to link to and from trustworthy sources when it makes sense. If you get a .gov website to link to you, you’ve found gold. Always design your content with a specific focus – i.e. don’t try to jam a blog with every idea your audience might be interested in. Always share new content on the appropriate social media channels for your audience.
What would your advice be to people who are looking to take up digital marketing as a career choice?
It’s all about creating and organizing content that your audience will find valuable.
