Jason Berkowitz is a digital marketing/SEO specialist based out of New York City, beginning his marketing journey in 2009. Jason operated a fitness business that was failing to gain new clientele. Through research & testing, Jason was able to successfully increase the visibility of the fitness business in the organic search results.
Throughout this process, Jason learned that his passion for fitness transformed into a passion for SEO and solving the mysterious puzzle of ranking websites. Because of this paradigm shift, Jason launched his digital marketing agency, Break The Web, with a big focus on their SEO Services New York label.
Please introduce yourself and where you work.
I’m Jason Berkowitz, the founder & CEO of Break The Web in NYC. We are a full-service digital marketing agency that has specialization in Search Engine Optimization. It’s not very often that a digital agency provides an in-house SEO service that warrants results, so that’s what makes us unique. We also offer Paid Advertising (Social & PPC), website development & retargeting for businesses of all sizes. Our current clientele ranges from local brick and mortar businesses to high enterprise clients, servicing a variety of industries and locations.
How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years?
SEO is always changing, with the big industry shake-ups taking place over the last decade. Ten years ago, spam ruled the search results and ranking for extremely competitive terms was a breeze. The algorithms focused on the quantity of incoming trust signals versus quality. Nowadays, quality is king where spam could warrant zero (or penalized) results.
Many SEO agencies fail to evolve as the search algorithms change. We focus on the future of search, with the goal of providing longevity to ensure our clients achieve results, as well as maintaining them for the long run. In Google’s attempt to provide authoritative results, it helps weed out the lousy SEO campaigns versus the ones that meet expectations.
How did you get introduced to digital marketing, more specifically SEO?
My SEO journey was brought onto by accident. Like any struggling business owners, I was looking for new, effective ways to market online. I began researching Search Engine Optimization and quickly knew that it would be the big stepping stone my previous business needed to succeed.
Since then, countless hours of research, testing & networking has led our agency to become one of the top SEO service providers in NYC, further dictated by our own search engine results.
What are the services you provide to your clients?
Our Search Engine Optimization services are what makes us unique. With a focus on building the trust & authority of a website, we have helped businesses of all sizes increase organic search engine visibility.
Our full range of complimentary services includes PPC/Google Adwords, Remarketing, Website Design & Development, Facebook Advertising, Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO), Social Media Management & PR. We have also provided paid advertising opportunities on LinkedIn, Reddit & Instagram.
What strategy according to you will prevail in 2018 for SEO?
I believe the importance of quality incoming trust signals (backlinks, content marketing, etc.) will continue to gain influence in 2018 and the coming years. Focusing in on the on-page user involvement, coupled with a CRO strategy will help not only signal to the search engines that you provide a great experience but will undoubtedly assist in converting traffic into potential customers. For some websites, making sure the mobile experience is fantastic could be a ‘make it or break it’ situation.
What would your advice be to people who are looking to take up digital marketing as a career choice?
Since we live in a society that searches for instant gratification, my main advice point is that patience will prevail. Digital marketing is fun and exciting, and every day you have the chance to learn something new. Understanding what’s realistically possible in a realistic timeframe will keep you grounded. Strive to be better every day, and even though success might take time, resilience and hard work are what makes a successful marketer.
