Having contributed to a monumental 1.2 billion dollars in global transactions for over 10 years, Michael earned his position as a maven in his chosen fields.
Starting his journey as a network engineer in 2006, Michael soon started his first business -MLK Computing- which would lead to the formation of the MLK Group. The 9 associated brands of the MLK Group, including MLK Marketing, geared towards being a powerhouse for business growth of small/medium businesses. With a solid backbone in I.T solutions, Kamitsis was able to apply technical knowledge to nurture and grow MLK Marketing as a powerful full-suite digital marketing agency that specializes in Search Engine Optimisation with an exclusive ranking formula for thousands of businesses nationwide.
Please tell us about yourself, where you work and your role at your company.
My name is Michael Kamitsis, and I am the CEO of the MLK Group. Our head office is based out in the heart of Melbourne at 89-93 High Street South, Kew. We serve Australia-wide clients.
I am proud to be part of a very talented, unstoppable, highly creative and ambitious team who prides themselves on delivering results that may seem impossible. A team that I am privileged to lead to success, following a vision of growth and prosperity for our clients.
How did you get introduced to digital marketing, more specifically SEO?
I owned and operated an I.T business called MLK Computing established in December 2007. In 2009, I went online with the brand, tried many different advertising mediums including Yellow Pages Online and the Yellow pages Book, spent thousands of dollars a month without generating enough ROI from any of our marketing channels. My technical skills were highly respected among my friends and in my social groups; therefore, I was able to sustain my business through referral work.
I needed to find another way to generate inquiries consistently for our brand. I approached my previous boss and persuaded him to come work for me. He accepted because I knew he respected my technical and business skills since I was one of the very few highly professional people who had an unstoppable attitude, plus I did have the record for the most sales when I worked for previous organizations.
Together, my vision was to create an unstoppable ranking strategy on Google Organic Search and generate an enormous amount of inquiries for my I.T business, MLK Computing.
After much trial and error, we successfully cracked the code to develop a ranking formula for Google with a focus on Conversion Rate Optimisation. My mind started racing. I couldn’t believe that I started a business for which I’ve now cracked a formula to generate as many inquiries as I wish. And these inquiries are hot; they are calling to request appointments to have their business’ I.T problems resolved, and they are happy to book on the spot.
I’m thinking about the possibility now: How many small and medium business I can help in solving this problem.
Every business would tremendously benefit from having a marketing system that allows them to receive unlimited amounts of inquiries for the same monthly cost.
By the way, in 2011, when I was 22 years old, no one would believe what I’ve just figured out if I told them my age. So I would never disclose my age and do my best to avoid this question -after all my clients wouldn’t pay me for how old I am, but for what I could do for them. And in logical terms, age = experience.
In my field, I was initially working part-time for a psychologist in a Medical Centre at the age of 14 -I built the computer network and his computer systems. So, after all, I was more than confident in my skills and abilities; I just always needed to make sure that I would still allow people to give me a chance.
Back to the point. Okay, so I’ve figured out this very impressive method in ranking that makes my phone ring, I’m now picking up more clients than ever, very quickly I’ve managed to make several sales for this product/method of ranking organically, and I must say the clients are more than impressed. These clients from 2011 are still with me today, and they have also received the benefits of this unstoppable ranking strategy.
Naturally, now the other business was formed named MLK Marketing with a vision to bring innovation to the small and medium-sized businesses; to inspire them to develop and grow to their potential by leveraging specialized marketing strategies and innovatively utilizing technology.
How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years? And, how do you think the year 2019 will shape up for the SEO industry?
I can confidently say that I have been in SEO for 10 years, which allows my opinion to be based on the experience of myself and others around me.
I think the most significant change I’ve noticed outside of all the concerns raised with SEO is that search engines like Google understand and serve the search needs of their users. As a result, they consistently launch more and more algorithm updates to provide their users with better and more useful information. Google updates hit those agencies which were using Black Hat SEO methods and spamming techniques to rank. These were the agencies which went on to say “SEO is Dead”.
The most significant change I’ve seen I can summarise with a philosophy of SEO. If you focus on delivering value to the end users and not manipulating Google, you will get the reward in due time.

Everybody knows what you have achieved, I would like to talk about your failure stories and how they impacted your professional life. (As we know Rome was not built in a day)
Failure stories are very important. You see failure is misrepresented and misinterpreted.
To me, failure does not mean failing at something. Failing at something is a chance to grow, an opportunity to learn to evolve, to identify what you have done wrong. It is a chance for you to emerge with powerful knowledge, in which you should feel grateful to get an opportunity to learn what will stay with you till the end of your life.
I registered my first business in December 2007; I was just 19 years old. Coming from a humble family who migrated to Australia for a better life, I had zero business experience and was forced to learn everything on my own.
My learning modality is kinaesthetic, so I learn by doing; this means in business, I would mainly learn by trial and error. And let me tell you, on my journey to grow to this level in which we have 40+ team members and have served thousands of clients, I can confidently say that life has a way of making sure I would learn more and more. I’ve always said, we are just getting started.
