Tools to Help You Find Blog Ideas and Research<\/b><\/h2>\n

Feedly<\/b><\/h3>\n

Feedly<\/strong><\/span><\/a> puts all your favorite blogs into a single feed. There are free and paid options, but the free version should be enough for your needs. (It works for me.) You can use Feedly to search for and follow industry-leading blogs or topics that interest you. When you\u2019re feeling lost on what to write or you want to see what others are writing about, use Feedly to get some ideas and research topics.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hubspot\u2019s Topic Generator<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/h3>\n

If you have a general idea of what you want to write about, but you can\u2019t settle on a specific topic or headline, <\/span>Hubspot\u2019s topic generator<\/a><\/strong> is a great place to start.<\/span><\/p>\n

You can enter up to three nouns, and the topic generator will produce five headlines. You might have to edit the titles slightly for grammar or clarity, but this is a great place to start if you write about the same few topics for each blog post (or if you\u2019re running out of ideas).<\/span><\/p>\n

Impact\u2019s Title Generator<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/h3>\n

You\u2019ll have to work a little to use <\/span>Impact\u2019s blog title generator<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The headline generator first asks what you want to blog about (you can choose from pre-set options or type in your own topic) and then gives you headlines that you can fill in the blank for.<\/span><\/p>\n

For example, here are some of the headlines it gave me:<\/b><\/h4>\n
    \n
  1. 7 ____ Fails That Will Make You ____<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. What You Need to Know About ____<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. How to ____ Even When _____<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    For our digital marketing blog, I could turn those titles into:<\/b><\/h4>\n

    1. 7 Digital Marketing Fails That Will Make You Revamp Your Strategy<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. What You Need to Know About Review Marketing<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. How to Get More Online Reviews Even When You\u2019re Short on Time<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Bonus<\/b>: After you generate a topic, at the right of the page you\u2019ll see a tab that says, \u201cwriter\u2019s block?\u201d If you click it, you\u2019ll see a pop-up that allows you to doodle (to attempt to visualize what you want to write about). <\/span><\/p>\n

      CoSc`hedule<\/b><\/h3>\n

      \"\"<\/a><\/h3>\n

      Once you\u2019ve settled on your title, use CoSchedule\u2019s headline analyzer to grade your headline. Think of your headline as the hook that grabs your audience and pulls them in so they\u2019ll read your blog post. I try to use headlines that have a score of 70 or higher to bring in a larger audience, but it\u2019s also important to focus on keywords and being concise.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      So, keep that in mind and try to avoid clickbait or spamming your readers.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Keyword Research Tools<\/b><\/h3>\n

      \"\"<\/a><\/h3>\n

      Keyword research is a necessary part of any good blog strategy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      It helps you figure out what people are actually searching for so that your blog ranks for the right searches, and when you target popular keywords (and rank for them) you\u2019ll build more and more organic traffic to those blog posts over time.<\/span><\/p>\n

      There are lots of keyword tools out there, but here are a few to get you started researching keywords for your blog:<\/span><\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Ubersuggest<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n
      2. Keyword Tool<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/li>\n
      3. Google Trends<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Tools to Help Write and Edit<\/b><\/h2>\n

        Hemingway Editor<\/b><\/h3>\n

        \"\"<\/a><\/h3>\n

        The <\/span>Hemingway editor<\/a><\/strong> is perfect for new writers or someone who isn\u2019t confident in their writing skills. You can use Hemingway to make sure you don\u2019t have too many long (or hard to read) sentences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        The editor will give you suggestions on how to make your writing easier to read. It will also give your blog post a readability score, showing you how easy it will be for your readers to understand what you\u2019re trying to say.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Grammarly<\/b><\/h3>\n

        \"\"<\/a><\/h3>\n

        Grammarly has a free chrome extension<\/strong><\/span><\/a> you can use to check your grammar before you publish. Grammarly will show you any critical errors and let you know if it thinks your sentences are too wordy. You can also purchase a Grammarly subscription, but the free version is great too!<\/span><\/p>\n

        P.S. Grammarly also has a free <\/span>Microsoft Word Extension<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Other Tools to Improve Your Blog Strategy<\/b><\/h2>\n

        Google Analytics for Monitoring and Improving Blog Traffic<\/b><\/h3>\n

        If you\u2019re hosting your blog, make sure to set up <\/span>Google Analytics<\/a><\/strong>. You can use analytics to monitor your blog traffic and find out what types of posts perform best as well as what doesn\u2019t work with your audience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        You can also see where the majority of your blog traffic comes from to determine which promotional avenues work best for your blog.<\/span><\/p>\n

        If you\u2019re using WordPress or another blogging platform, you can use the platform\u2019s built-in analytics to do the same type of analysis. See what types of posts and headlines (list, question, etc) do best and what types of posts don\u2019t perform well.<\/span><\/p>\n

        You can use this information to publish more of what works well and improve older blog posts that aren\u2019t doing as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Social Media for Free Promotion of Blog Posts<\/b><\/h3>\n

        Don\u2019t forget that blog promotion is one of the most important pieces of your strategy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        Social Media is free, so don\u2019t forget to share your blog posts on your social pages. You should also consider using a plug-in like <\/span>ShareThis<\/a><\/strong> or <\/span>Sumo<\/a><\/strong> to make it easy for your readers to share your posts while they\u2019re reading.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Final Blogging Tips<\/b><\/h2>\n

        Another great way to streamline your writing process is to outline every post before you write it. If you have a detailed outline, you\u2019ll write more quickly and stay on track rather than going off on a tangent or taking your blog post in a different direction than it started in.<\/span><\/p>\n

        And don\u2019t forget that, whatever you do, make sure your blog posts provide value to your target audience by answering their questions and helping them solve problems. Now it\u2019s your turn. Get out there and get blogging.<\/span><\/p>\n
