          Should he access the same page from the \u201cpillows\u201d section, his URL would look like this: www.website.com\/pillows\/sale if the platform allows the page to be accessed from different categories.<\/span><\/p>\n

          A developer can fix these categories within the platform you use.<\/span><\/p>\n

            WWWs and HTTPs<\/b><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            When there\u2019s a WWW version of your site, but it is accessible without it as well, duplicate content is present on each page. The same goes with HTTP and HTTPS, although we encounter this issue much rarely.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

            The solution is to choose which version you want to go with and <\/span>redirect the chosen version<\/a><\/strong> to the other.<\/span><\/p>\n

              If you have printer friendly pages on the website, they are practically the same as the regular ones, with different formatting. Google will find those, and again, you\u2019ll have more duplicate content.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

              Fighting Duplicate Content\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

              The universal solution for all of the aforementioned issues is often solved with a canonical URL. It is the \u201ccorrect\u201d URL for a certain chunk of content that was previously available on more addresses.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

              The tools we can use to determine whether there\u2019s any duplicate content on the website, range from the simple and free ones, to the tools you have to purchase.<\/span><\/p>\n

              The easiest method is to copy a piece of content and put it in quotation marks in the search engine. All of the pages that contain the same content will be displayed on the first page of search results.<\/span><\/p>\n

              Another way to check duplicated content is to run the page\u2019s URL through <\/span>Copyscape<\/a><\/strong> or <\/span>Screaming Frog SEO Spider<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

              Google Webmaster Tools can help, too. When you click on the category Search Appearance > HTML Improvements, it will show you the URLs with the duplicate material.<\/span><\/p>\n

              To prevent making the same content on multiple pages, it\u2019s important to:<\/b><\/h4>\n

              1. remove the session ID extension in the URL in the platform settings<\/span><\/li>\n

              3. start using <\/span>print style sheets<\/a><\/strong> instead of printer friendly pages<\/span><\/li>\n
              4. choose only one version of the protocol (HTTP or HTTPS) or www as the beginning of the URL name<\/span><\/li>\n
              5. be consistent when making new content and avoid having the same page sections across multiple pages<\/span><\/li>\n
              6. use identical URLs for the same pages on internal links<\/span><\/li>\n
              7. not block duplicate content pages from indexing, since Google can detect that you want to hide something from it<\/span><\/li>\n
              8. link back to the canonical version of the page; make sure the anchor text sounds natural<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                Duplicate content issues can hurt your SEO efforts in the long run. Even though Google claims it doesn\u2019t penalise websites that have the same content on multiple pages, it can be bad for your ranking and ruin the backlink value.<\/span><\/p>\n
