Plus, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hubspot.com\/blog\/tabid\/6307\/bid\/4826\/seo-for-youtube-how-to-search-optimize-video-for-b2b-marketing.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SEO on YouTube<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is sometimes surprisingly different from the Google SEO best practices content marketers might be used to. Those are just two of many, many differences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So if you\u2019re going to put all of that time and effort into video content marketing on YouTube, you need to be committed to getting it right.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s why today, we\u2019re talking about getting your brand\u2019s channel started. Because YouTube looks at your video\u2019s transcription and closed captioning, knowing your keyword before you start talking can help you naturally optimize parts of your video.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 2: Plan Your Video Structure<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here is where videos start to really differentiate from written content. People consume them SO differently, and that needs to be accounted for in every piece of your video.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, people can\u2019t skim and scroll through a video the way they can a blog post. So where in blog posts intros, it can be effective to lead your readers into your main point with some conversation or a story, with video you need to let people know what you\u2019re talking about right away. You can always tell that great story later, but viewers make up their minds about videos quickly that you don\u2019t have time to leisurely win them over.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another difference is branding and bios. With written content on your own website, people can see who you are and what your business is right there. With YouTube, you\u2019re on someone else\u2019s platform, so it\u2019s important to incorporate brand awareness throughout the video. For example, by using branded title graphics or intros.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even introducing yourself isn\u2019t as cut and dry as you\u2019d think. That works since readers aren\u2019t forced to consume the content linearly, the way they are with videos. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While you don\u2019t want to pitch your whole offer or lead magnet upfront, before you\u2019ve provided free value, make sure to tease and mention it throughout the video so people know about it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I like to tease the call-to-action and hint at the value viewers will get from it within the first minute, then give all the details towards the end. When it\u2019s relevant, I\u2019ll also bring it back up briefly within the video\u2019s main content to keep enticing viewers to watch until the end.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 3: Optimize Your Videos<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, you need to optimize your video correctly when publishing. How well a video performs in the 24 hours <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/videocreators.com\/how-to-get-more-youtube-views-on-a-videos-first-24-hours-ep-33\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is predicted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to impact overall success a lot, so it needs to be optimized from the second it\u2019s public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To make that a less rushed process, there are a few things you can do:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pull together your full list of topic and branded keywords before uploading your video.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creating custom thumbnails and closed captioning\/transcription.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Writing your video\u2019s description in advance and using templates for parts like your bio and links to your social channels from week to week.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/youtube\/answer\/1270709?hl=en\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scheduling your video to publish later<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or uploading it on private and making it public once it\u2019s optimized.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rankwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/3-1.jpg?ssl=1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6640\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rankwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/3-1.jpg?resize=640%2C339&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"339\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rankwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/3-1.jpg?w=762&amp;ssl=1 762w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rankwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/3-1.jpg?resize=300%2C159&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You want to make sure that it can start appearing in YouTube search right away, and free up your own time once it\u2019s live to focus as much of that first 24 hours as possible on promotion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some other optimization basics include using your focus keyword in your video file name, video title, closed captioning, and description. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 4: Promote and Repurpose Your Content<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Okay, so your video is optimized and live for the world to see. Now it\u2019s time to drive eyeballs to it, and quick.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like I mentioned earlier, the first 24 hours of your video highly impacts its long-term success, so you want to set the stage well. But you also still need a long-term content promotion strategy for your channel\u2019s backlog of videos.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The First 24 Hours<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your greatest asset in driving initial traffic and engagement to new videos will be your existing audience. When you\u2019re first starting out with YouTube and video content marketing, lean heavily on your audience from other channels, like your blog, email list, and social media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The same day a new video goes live, you want to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Send an email out to your subscribers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Publish a blog post or landing page on your website featuring the video<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Share (even multiple times) on all of your social media channels<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sent to any ambassadors or advocates that can share it <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As your following on YouTube grows, you\u2019ll be able to lean into that audience more, but the same rules still apply. People who already know and trust you will be quickest to activate around engaging with the video, so they\u2019re your strongest focus for this time crunch.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Long-Term Traffic<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For driving long-term views, use the basic rules of evergreen content promotion. For example, create more content on other channels pointing to your videos. Share them multiple times on social media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are also features on YouTube that are important for driving consistent traffic to your videos. Add videos to relevant playlists, customize your channel layout to feature top content, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/videocreators.com\/tutorial-use-youtubes-new-end-card-editor\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">use end screens<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and cards to link related videos to each other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Video is also amazing for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brittanyberger.com\/getting-started-repurposing-content\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">repurposing content<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You can repurpose it as is or reformat and transcribe it into written content.
