There\u2019s so much to think about when setting up a blog, so much to organize and process, and it doesn\u2019t just happen overnight. Then, once your blog\u2019s up and running, there\u2019s everything else that follows. The constant brainstorming, the steady stream of content, and the urge to stay relevant in an already overcrowded marketplace.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yep, setting up and growing your blog can be quite a challenge – especially if you don\u2019t have a clue what you\u2019re doing. <\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s why I\u2019m here to help.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, you\u2019ve already decided on the fashion and travel niches – that\u2019s great! Now all you need to do is bring your ideas to life. <\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s jump right in, shall we?<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Decide on a host<\/span><\/h2>\n

The first thing that you need to do is choose your host. Are you going to use a platform, such as Blogger or WordPress, that\u2019s free to use and aimed at beginners who just want to blog for fun?<\/span><\/p>\n

Or, do you have big plans for your blog and want to grow it into a sustainable business one day? <\/span><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re thinking the latter, then you might want to think about self-hosting. For a small charge per month, you can sign up with a self-hosted platform which means that you completely own and control your blog. You don\u2019t have to worry about your platform suddenly shutting down and losing all your content – and you can customise just about anything you want. Another plus is that you can have constant, on-hand help from your platform\u2019s readily available team of experts.<\/span><\/p>\n

A couple of popular, self-hosting platforms to check out are Siteground and Bluehost – but you could always get started using a free platform and then switch to self-hosting later on in the game.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Buy a domain name<\/h2>\n

Alright, so you don\u2019t <\/span>have<\/span><\/i> to buy a domain name if you\u2019re using a platform such as Blogger and WordPress. It just means that you have a rather untidy extension to your blog name (i.e. <\/span>www.blogname.blogspot.com<\/span><\/a>) – not ideal!<\/span><\/p>\n

Buying your own domain name is quick, easy, and practically painless. All you need is a few quid per year. <\/span><\/p>\n

You can use sites like GoDaddy to grab a quick domain name. Alternatively, if you\u2019re self-hosted, your platform will offer this service as part of a package or for another small charge.<\/span><\/p>\n

I definitely recommend that you buy your own domain name, whether you\u2019re using your blog for personal or professional purposes, because it just looks <\/span>so<\/span><\/i> much better! Don\u2019t you think?<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh and because you\u2019re going to be working in the fashion and travel niches – try to pick something creative to reflect your upcoming content.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s face it – <\/span>www.fashionandtravelblog.com<\/span><\/a> doesn\u2019t exactly scream \u201cclick me!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Have regular brainstorming sessions<\/h2>\n

Okay so you\u2019ve got your blog basically set up, you\u2019ve chosen a kickass domain name – and you\u2019re ready to start publishing! <\/span><\/p>\n

Now comes the fun part – let\u2019s get brainstorming.<\/span><\/p>\n

What kind of content are you feelin\u2019? Do you want to start primarily with fashion posts and then move casually into travel? Do you want a healthy mix of both niches? Or, do you want to intertwine the two? For example, \u201cX Fall Outfits You Can Wear for a Weekend in Prague\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The choice is yours!<\/span><\/p>\n

Make sure that you have a place for writing down all your ideas, whether it\u2019s in a physical notepad or on your computer, and pick the best ones to develop into actual blog posts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also try to make your ideas as unique as possible, which will be difficult because the fashion and travel blogging world is very oversaturated.<\/span><\/p>\n

But, I believe in you! <\/span>You\u2019ve got this<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Create killer content.<\/h2>\n

And by killer, I mean <\/span>killer. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

To successfully grow your blog, you need to create posts that people are actually going to want to read. Aspiring bloggers, take note: content is king!<\/span><\/p>\n

Choose exciting topics that are original, develop copy that delivers value to the reader, and use media to break up the huge chunks of text in your posts. By media – I\u2019m talking imagery, videos, screenshots and the like.<\/span><\/p>\n

You want to make the post easily accessible and digestible to the reader, which will also help your posts rank better <\/span>in terms of SEO <\/b><\/a>. (That\u2019s Search Engine Optimisation, for newbies!)<\/span><\/p>\n

A little tip?<\/span><\/p>\n

Spend time creating your posts, especially in the early days. Don\u2019t ever compromise your blog\u2019s content because you\u2019re short on time or you simply can\u2019t be bothered that day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Start how you mean to go on – and take it slow. Blogging isn\u2019t a race!<\/span><\/p>\n

5.Promote your posts<\/h2>\n

Once you\u2019ve got your content up and running, you need to shout about it!<\/span><\/p>\n

Social media is the greatest tool <\/span>ever<\/span><\/i> when it comes to <\/span>promoting your blog posts <\/b><\/a>. Be active on Facebook, use Twitter, utilise Instagram – hey, even email your Great Auntie Moureen. Whatever works to spread the word about your fabulous new blog post – do it!<\/span><\/p>\n

When it comes to Twitter and Instagram, you can use certain hashtags that are specifically designed for the fashion and travel blogging communities to help generate engagement. You can find these below:<\/span><\/p>\n

Fashion – #fbloggers #fashionbloggers<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Travel – #tbloggers #travelbloggers<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Fashion and travel fit under the \u201clifestyle\u201d umbrella, so you can also use the following:<\/span><\/p>\n

Lifestyle – #lbloggers #lifestylebloggers<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The trick is to initially promote your posts once they go live – and then just keep on promoting them! Whether you can afford the time to do it once per week, twice a week or – heck – even <\/span>everyday<\/span><\/i>, don\u2019t be shy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Your killer content deserves to be read and appreciated – and you need to drive them hits to your blog, yo!<\/span><\/p>\n

6. Engage with relevant blogging communities.<\/h2>\n

In addition to creating and posting killer content, and promoting each post that you publish, it\u2019s important to regularly engage with the fashion and travel blogging communities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both the fashion and travel lot are a lovely bunch, and they\u2019re happy to comment on your blog posts if you comment on theirs.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, make sure that you get yourself out there! It\u2019s all about that self-promo!<\/span><\/p>\n

Use the hashtags mentioned previously to search for blogs you might like, give them a visit and then leave them some love via social media. The chances are, your generosity will be reciprocated!<\/span><\/p>\n

You can also participate in Twitter chats, which run like clockwork every week, based on a topic announced beforehand. Here are a few that you could get yourself involved with:<\/span><\/p>\n

Fashion, beauty and lifestyle – #fblchat on Tuesdays at 8-9pm GMT<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Fashion – #fbloggers on Sundays at 8-9pm GMT<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Lifestyle – #lbloggers on Wednesdays and Sundays at 7-8pm GMT<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

It\u2019s time to get chatty!<\/span><\/p>\n

7. Post regularly.<\/h2>\n

The final tip I have for you is to make sure that you\u2019re posting regularly on your blog once it\u2019s up and running. It\u2019s the only way that you\u2019re going to grow your audience.<\/span><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t be one of those bloggers who posts regularly for a couple of months and then disappears. What\u2019s the point in building up your audience and a loyal following, only to abandon them for months at a time? It undoes all your hard work.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hint: consistency is the key!<\/span><\/p>\n

Decide on a content schedule and stick to it. Then, and only then, you will start to see results of your growth through your blog\u2019s statistics and engagement level.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re looking to turn your blog into a source of income, you might start getting approached by brands around this point – and that\u2019s when it gets <\/span>really<\/span><\/i> exciting<\/span><\/p>\n

As with anything in life, blogging is a learning game. It takes time to figure out the logistical side of things, such as setting up your blog, as well as the marketing side of things via social media.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, once you get going, blogging can be so fulfilling. Whether you\u2019re planning to publish purely for yourself, or for a professional purpose, all you need is passion and drive to deliver results.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you persevere, you\u2019re serious about it, and you\u2019re more than willing to put in the work – then there\u2019s no reason why your blog can\u2019t succeed.<\/span><\/p>\n
