This type of marketing allows you to expand your network which will open the doors to more visibility and opportunity. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While people know the power of influencer marketing, we need to approach influencers just as they are\u2026people. They won\u2019t share your content because you ask them to do so. Influencers get plenty of those types of requests each day. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, these same influencers do share other people\u2019s content. This is the advice we hear over and over again on countless blog posts. However, we need to recapture this idea. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Valuable content needs to be proven and a cut above the rest. Valuable content isn\u2019t just measured by word count or how much information is wrapped within your content. It\u2019s based on gathering an audience and hearing their thoughts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your audience likes the content, you\u2019ll know that you produced a valuable piece of content. Valuable content isn\u2019t what you think is valuable. It\u2019s what your audience thinks is valuable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you write for your audience and continue <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rankwatch.com\/blog\/7-ways-to-set-up-and-grow-your-blog-as-an-aspiring-fashion-and-travel-blogger\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">attracting people to your content<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, producing valuable content will become easier over time. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, let\u2019s revisit that cut above the rest part. That\u2019s an important theme for influencer marketing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Influencers can simply promote one of their own valuable pieces of content. Your content has to outweigh the insights that most (ideally everyone else) can offer. Those are the types of pieces of content that win. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Valuable content is important, but there\u2019s another way to sweeten the pot.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Mention People In Your Content<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Would you rather buy a business book, or a business book with your name in it? People love when they get mentioned in a positive way whether it be a book, blog post, or video.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rankwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/microphone-1172260_1280.jpg?ssl=1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7292 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rankwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/microphone-1172260_1280.jpg?resize=640%2C411&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"mention in content\" width=\"640\" height=\"411\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rankwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/microphone-1172260_1280.jpg?resize=1024%2C658&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rankwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/microphone-1172260_1280.jpg?resize=300%2C193&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rankwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/microphone-1172260_1280.jpg?resize=768%2C494&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rankwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/microphone-1172260_1280.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I make it a point to mention several people in my blog posts. When I link to someone\u2019s article, I\u2019m strengthening my content\u2019s value with additional research. This is also pre-marketing because I will then contact everyone I mentioned to let them know I mentioned them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I don\u2019t ask for social shares. I give them a choice. At the very worst case scenario, one extra person visits my blog. At the best case scenario, people I mention share that blog post, and then some of their followers proceed to do the same.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mentioning the influencers you reach out to in your content will boost your chances of them sharing your content with their audiences. It aligns with a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New York Times <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study where self-fulfillment and giving themselves an added sense of value are some of the reasons why people share their content. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/coschedule.com\/blog\/why-people-share\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CoSchedule does an excellent job at summarizing that study.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The big secret in influencer marketing is realizing that influencers are people. Just like anyone else, they enjoy getting mentioned on blogs, channels, and podcasts. Just like anyone else, many of them would also show that off to their friends, or in influencers\u2019 cases, their audiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Permission Marketing Wins<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While influencers will likely share content they\u2019re featured in, it\u2019s not always the case. Some influencers get many features and decide not to acknowledge pushy requests for shares.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This strategy for boosting your chances of getting social shares works, but some influencers know about this strategy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chances are influencers are reading posts just like this. There are influencers reading this post, and perhaps you too are an influencer.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s no secret that some people just mention influencers solely for shares. To actually get those shares and see influencer marketing pay off for your brand, you need to leverage <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sethgodin.typepad.com\/seths_blog\/2008\/01\/permission-mark.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">permission marketing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I will keep bringing up that influencers are people. Just as we enjoy sharing content we\u2019re featured in, we don\u2019t like doing something that seems forced. This is why most people don\u2019t like chores. They seem forced. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chores continue to get done because they are necessary, but not sharing content you\u2019re featured in doesn\u2019t carry the same weight as not doing your chores anymore (for the sake of the argument, let\u2019s say you don\u2019t delegate your chores such as laundry either).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may want an influencer to share your content, but for that to happen, it must be the influencer\u2019s idea to share your content. If it\u2019s not their idea to do so, they probably won\u2019t share your content.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a big marketing twist, subtly asking for the share or not asking for the share at all is better than aggressively asking for one. I tell influencers that they can share or not share my content that features them. It\u2019s always their choice, but permission marketing tells the influencer that you acknowledge it\u2019s their choice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some influencers consume a sea of emails that say something like \u201cPlease share\u201d which is a nice way of saying \u201cYou should share this piece of content since I mentioned you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make it clear that you are indifferent with whether an influencer shares or doesn\u2019t share your content. Your indifference makes it the influencer\u2019s choice. Some won\u2019t share, and that\u2019s okay. But you\u2019ll get more influencers to share your content with this approach than the commonly pushy approach others take when asking for the share. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Scaling This Strategy<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your ability to scale this influencer marketing strategy is based on two things:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>1. Your frequency<\/p>\n<p>2. The number of mentions in each piece of content you create<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s say you want to double the potential for this strategy. Note that I say potential because it\u2019s still up to all of the influencers you contact whether they want to share your content or not. This is different from how doubling your product\u2019s conversion rate will mathematically guarantee that you double your sales with everything else being the same.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can double the potential for this strategy by publishing twice as much content each week or mentioning twice as many people in each piece of content you produce.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both of these approaches will force you to do more research and build relationships with more people. If you believe it\u2019s too challenging to scale and do the research to learn about more people, you can always delegate this part.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For me, conducting research is as easy as going to blogs I know or typing a search phrase and seeing what the first page of Google gives me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I sometimes go deeper into Google search results (i.e. Page 5). That\u2019s where you\u2019ll find micro influencers who have more time to respond to emails like yours than the people who regularly get hundreds of emails every day. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.provenseo.com\/blog\/micro-influencers.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Micro influencers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are more likely to share your content than influencers who everyone knows. If many people know an influencer, that means many people are contacting that influencer. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Influencer marketing is critical. You build relationships with people who may promote all of your new content. However, you want to genuinely approach each person you connect with. Don\u2019t view influencers as opportunity bearers. Instead, focus on building the relationship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even if an influencer decides to not share your content right now, still build that relationship. This strategy will result in more traffic, but you\u2019ll also increase your network which is even more valuable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What are your thoughts on influencer marketing?
