How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

I think the constant evolution of technology and the continual advancements in Google algorithms have caused an ongoing transformation in the field of SEO. Ten years ago black hat spammy methods of link building and keyword stuffing were common in the SEO industry, and because so few people actually knew what SEO was and how it worked, these methods won the game for a period of time. But that is no longer the case. Google algorithms have become more sophisticated and can now recognize these forms of trickery. The algorithms now mandate that SEO experts practice authentic, ethical forms of SEO to gain traction and rank higher in search results. Content has become increasingly important in this field, and with this change, one of the biggest shifts in SEO is that it’s gone from a highly technical and mysterious tactic often handled outside of the marketing team, to an integrated tactic that marketers think about when it comes to creating all types of content.<\/div>\n

I began working in the digital marketing field 10 years ago while working in corporate America for leading brand names. My experience with SEO picked up over the past few years as the integration with SEO and content creation started to become so intertwined.<\/div>\n

As we enter 2018, I believe SEO will continue to evolve quite rapidly. With voice search becoming more and more widely used, brands will need to think of SEO from new and different angles that have been less of a priority in the past. I also believe that regardless of the new technologies that are introduced, one thing we can and should expect, is that SEO will continue to be driven by user needs and desires. Google is clearly working on behalf of the user, and will strive to deliver content that best aligns to what users want to see.<\/div>\n

What would your advice be to people who are looking to take up digital marketing as a career choice?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

For anyone looking to take up digital marketing as a career choice, my advance would be to emerge yourself into the industry. Find bloggers, podcasts, authors, and industry leaders to follow. Spend as much time as you can learning from others. Be prepared and motivated to embark on a career that is filled with life-time learning because you will never know enough and what you know today will never be good enough for 3 months from now. Also, practice, practice, practice. The only way to get good at digital marketing is through hands-on experience. A\/B test. Try different ways of doing things and monitor data to learn from insights.<\/div>\n
