Algorithm updates began to vet the bad sites and search results became or personalized. I attained a degree in criminal justice, completely different from digital marketing. I couldn\u2019t find a job, so I began learning about digital marketing. My friend\u2019s tax firm needed a person for SEO, so I learned for 2 months and began to work for him. After a few months, I got hired by a company called Lexis Nexis where I spent 4 years moving up to a senior strategist roll before I left, managing a 7 figure SEO portfolio. If you want to start, go through all basic guides. Start following relevant thought leadership websites like Search Engine Land and Search Engine Journal. Learn how to use and get certified in analytics platforms. Learn to use search engine webmaster tools, and make sure you are well rounded in other disciplines as well. Use free versions of industry tools to make sure you are comfortable using them. Network with industry professionals and attend free marketing thought leadership events.
