Please introduce yourself and where you work.
My name is Bryan Driscoll and I am the founder of Think Big Marketing. I strive to help small to medium-sized businesses stay ahead of their competitors through creative, customized SEO & social media services. Internet marketing is growing so quickly and I have found that many businesses are struggling to keep up. We dedicate our efforts toward helping businesses make their mark and grow their brands, while also teaching what we have learned so they too grow their business in this rapidly changing market.
How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years?
One of the biggest changes from 10 years ago is that the search engines are focusing on user experience, which is a good thing. 10 years ago, spammy links via forum posts, blog comments, sitewide links, keyword stuffing would work – you could be really spammy and rank well. Today, the search engines are focusing on relevancy for the user – which means you need to optimize each page on your website to provide high-quality, relevant content. You also have to have high-quality links to your site and the spammy tactics of the years past now result in penalties due to poor user experience.
How did you get introduced to digital marketing, more specifically SEO?
I got into SEO years ago when a buddy of mine was selling products on eBay. I helped him create a WordPress site with one of the free themes. It was incredibly basic, just the white theme and we just embedded the PayPal buttons on each page for the product. We didn’t even have it set up like an e-commerce store. We optimized the site and started marketing it. It turned into a hobby for me, which then turned into a sustainable business. I have been trying to help business owners grow their businesses ever since.
What are the services you provide to your clients?
I offer a few different options in terms of service. First, some people hire me to consult with their current in-house team to help them improve their marketing strategy. Many people hire me to perform SEO Audits on their website. These audits give detailed instructions and a hand-tailored strategy for them to implement. This is a pretty cost-effective way to help a business owner get on track without spending big bucks. I also offer turn-key SEO services which include consulting, on-page SEO Audits, off-page SEO strategy and social media marketing.
What strategy according to you will prevail in 2018 for SEO?
I think the combination of quality content optimized with proper SEO strategy paired with effective user engagement on social media will prevail in 2018. Businesses that focus on user experience, engaging content and delivering value will be winners 2018.
What would your advice be to people who are looking to take up digital marketing as a career choice?
My advice would be – start doing digital marketing as a “side hustle” to see if you have what it takes. It’s a lot of hard work and long hours, but it is rewarding. Keep the side hustle until you make more than your 9-5 job – then decide if you want to make a career change. If anyone has any questions what the career is like – feel free to write me via facebook or twitter.
