What are the effects of google sitemap on my SEO?

Ideally, search engines should be able to see all the pages you allow them to see. The more pages that are indexed by the search engine, the more credibility your website will gain, which conveys that your website has more relevant information to offer to visitors.
The point of a sitemap is to allow the search engines to crawl and index all the pages you want to show to visitors. The point of a sitemap is nothing to do with internal linking or navigation, it is only for search engine spiders to see.
Hence, having a well defined site map will not greatly affect your SEO, but it will definitely help in letting the search engine identify more relevant pages to be ranked.
