Get to Know Josh Griffin, Owner of Creative Boro

Josh Griffin is a graduate of MTSU with a Computer Information Systems focus. He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and desires to help organizations accomplish more with less cost and higher quality and efficiency. He has worked on many technological and complex software applications in his career, most notably a custom project management software for a software development company, and a subscription-based Learning Management system for Entrepreneurs. He has been helping businesses make smart decisions in marketing, web, and software since 2013 professionally.

Please introduce yourself and where you work.


Hello, my name is Josh Griffin, and I am the Owner of Creative Boro

How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years?


With smartphones, the increase in internet speed, algorithm updates, people want to find answer faster than before. With that, I think that SEO has merged more with InBound Marketing ideas. It’s not just stuffing keywords everywhere anymore to rank higher. It’s more about getting the right people to click on your result and leading them on a path…the right path. Pagespeed, Security, Clear CTA, Easy Navigation…these are all for the betterment of your audience. Improving bounce rate means learning about your audience to better serve them the correct information. Sure, to an extent this has always been the case, however more so than now than before.

How did you get introduced to digital marketing, more specifically SEO?


I left a software company to start my own business. Originally, we were consultants working on Software Projects, Process Improvement Projects and Project Management. Somehow, after networking in the city that I live in, I found that was able to help Local and Small Business with web presence. It started with simply web design and hosting, but quickly I found that SEO services would deliver a huge benefit to my business. So, I started investing time in studying SEO and InBounding Marketing more and more. We shifted focus, and specifically work to help fellow local businesses with web presence.

What are the services you provide to your clients?


We provide Web Design, Local SEO, Social Media Management, Hosting, and Google and Facebook Ad Management. We also do training workshops throughout the area with different business development organizations.

What strategy according to you will prevail in 2018 for SEO?


Providing helpful and meaningful content, as well as having consistent and updated information about your business across the internet.

What would your advice be to people who are looking to take up digital marketing as a career choice?


Stop reading and learning and go get clients! Paying clients are the only way you will succeed. I see so many people in a business that just keeping reading, studying, planning but they never actually do anything. You learn so much more by ‘doing’ and making mistakes, and you will make mistakes. That is just part of it. Just start making money now, learn and improve as you go. When I left my previous job to start my company, I had a paying client in the first week. It didn’t pay much, but I made sure I was making some money. From there, I got another one and another one and improved what I was doing over time. You just need to stop what you are doing now, and go make some sales!
