"Rankings continue to matter more and more for SEO." What is the importance of Rankings in 2015 as far as you're concerned?
Don?t know about this quote, do you have the context?
What are your favorite strategies to get your site or content ranked in the Google SERPs?
The strategies I like are not ?just? related to SEO but just apply to how I see marketing in general. Creating the best experience you can to both the search engines as your users:
Do the best you can and don?t give up in doing so! For example what we do at The Next Web is publishing; we provide news within the technology industry to our audience. Some days we fail some days we win big, but always make sure you?re prepared for the best days.
Always think about anything that you can write about, and then go over the things you wrote and write in even more detail what you wrote about earlier. That makes great content, going to length over the quality of it. Not just pushing out some articles with some random keywords that you found in a keyword tool, I still see that too often. Besides that you always need to think two steps ahead, if you?re nowadays thinking about a keyword strategy, it?s too late. Same with optimizing your site for speed and mobile, you should have done those 1-2 years ago when your site maybe had less than 1/10 of your traffic from mobile.
What would you say are the 3 critical elements to be covered in an SEO site audit?
p>Web Analytics Integrations & Technical SEO. I?ll leave it at these two for now, because they?re so important to me whenever I start that I don?t want to think about any other steps before I checked these very deeply. First I want to make absolutely sure that your tracking every element on your site that you can + all pages to make sure we can track every element of engagement and interaction with your site once your traffic will start increasing. Second, technical SEO is still far underrated, with all new web techniques: Angular.js more and more Ajax, lazy loading images and the site speed improvements that you?d have to do it will have an impact either on the left or right side of your Web site. Plus I don?t want to be the one to tell you in the end that you?re not ranking because you have 100 mentions to a certain page but you forgot to remove the noindexmeta tags on that page (really story) because I didn?t do a technical checkup.
What features do you think are missing in mainstream SEO tools? Are there any processes you'd love to see automated?
APIs!
Export all the data that is available in your tools. And with that I mean everything that is available in an SEO tool. I come across some really good tool but on the level that you want to work on sometimes just the raw data is needed and CSV, Excel or Google Drive exports are just not enough. They don?t automate anything mostly, APIs do!
