Please introduce yourself and where you work.

My name is Aaron Watters and I’m the CEO / VP of Leadhub

How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years?

The evolution of SEO has been a wild ride over the last 10 years, from Penguin to Panda and Semantic search making huge impacts across the web. For the most part, I think Google has done a fairly good job of weeding out the quick win, spammy link building SEO companies. I think we’re finally at a place where SEO can by synonymous with brand building.

How did you get introduced to digital marketing, more specifically SEO?

In 2008 I was working for a web hosting and development company. Our clients were repeatedly asking us for SEO services so I joined the community and soaked up as much as I could.

What are the services you provide to your clients?

We provide a full suite of digital marketing services; website development, SEO, SEM, Social Media, Videography and more. Our primary client base is home service companies.

What strategy according to you will prevail in 2018 for SEO?

I think AMP optimized pages and content development will be huge in 2018. At the same time, I believe agencies should be capitalizing on what Google offers now to help customers develop their customer database for future use. I think Google is making some changes that will impact agencies in the future so it’s important that businesses begin to operate with anticipated separation from Google.

What would your advice be to people who are looking to take up digital marketing as a career choice?

With digital marketing, I’d recommend you play to your strengths. I think content creators have a solidified long term role in this industry, but other skill sets may not be as valuable. If you’re just getting into digital marketing, I strongly recommend you identify your strengths early and find as many freelance contracts as possible. In hiring, the portfolio of work trumps the education.
