Please introduce yourself and where you work.


My name is Marc Brookland. I am the Founder & President of SEO Locale. We’re a full-service digital marketing agency in Philadelphia, PA. We provide premier digital marketing services to local businesses, national businesses as well as international businesses.

How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years?


SEO has changed a great deal. Search engines have gotten increasingly smarter about the “black hat SEO” strategies used in order to gain first page rankings. Although the core of SEO is similar, the tactics used in order to gain first page rankings has dramatically changed. Additionally, the emergence of mobile and voice search has taken over the internet. The way people search dictates the way websites need to strategize in order to be found relevant for queries.

How did you get introduced to digital marketing, more specifically SEO?


My first job out of college was at a small web design & development company in Philadelphia where I focused on analyzing website data and traffic. The love for data and understanding user behavior took me down the path of finding my next job at an SEO agency where I could hone in on my analytical skillset and continue to grow.

What are the services you provide to your clients?


We are a full service digital marketing agency which means anything that our clients want to do online, we can assist them. This includes, but is not limited to, web design, web development, SEO (local, national, international), content marketing, mobile optimization, mobile applications, paid advertising, social media management, reputation management and email marketing.

What strategy according to you will prevail in 2018 for SEO?


Focus on obtaining high quality backlinks as well has a strong content marketing campaign. Provide the most informational and helpful content you possibly can to you customers. Last but not least, focus on the devices used to find your services and/or products. This means having a strong focus on mobile and voice search.

What would your advice be to people who are looking to take up digital marketing as a career choice?


Stay ahead of the curve! Constantly read research pieces and understand what is being done that search engines favor. Engage as much as possible with peers in the industry and just talk about some of the changes going on, it’s great to hear other point of views and get a 360 perspective.
