Get to Know Roman Prokopchuk, CEO and Founder of Nova Zora Digital

Roman Prokopchuk is the Founder and CEO of Nova Zora Digital, a full-service digital marketing agency he founded in 2012. Roman has more than 10 years of experience in SEO, PPC, social media, analytics, content marketing, and many other aspects of digital marketing. Roman has worked with fortune 500 companies, as well as small businesses in delivering on ROI. Some of the industries Roman has experience in are pharma, biotech, financial services, energy, and fitness. Roman has led digital teams in three previous director roles on the agency side as well as in-house teams. Roman enjoys pro bono projects with non-profits and is always happy to give back. In his spare time, Roman enjoys hosting his podcast “The Digital Savage Experience”, blogging, travelling, and networking.

Please introduce yourself and where you work.

My name is Roman Prokopchuk and I’m the CEO and Founder of Nova Zora Digital. I’m also the host of the Digital Savage Experience Podcast.

How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years?

SEO has gotten more refined and personalized with the last 10 years. 10 years ago, it was the wild west with black hat techniques that manipulated searches engines and delivered bad user experience more often slipped through the cracks. Algorithm updates began to vet the bad sites and search results became or personalized. Good content began to be rewarded, and with the advancement of technology things like Rank Brain became a consideration.

How did you get introduced to digital marketing, more specifically SEO?

I graduated college during the 2007/2008 when the economy crashed. I attained a degree in criminal justice, completely different from digital marketing. I couldn’t find a job, so I began learning about digital marketing. My friend’s tax firm needed a person for SEO, so I learned for 2 months and began to work for him. After a few months, I got hired by a company called Lexis Nexis where I spent 4 years moving up to a senior strategist roll before I left, managing a 7 figure SEO portfolio. From there I branched out to all things digital and had 3 director roles on the agency side where I gained experience with fortune 500 clients.

Nova Zora Digital is a full-service digital marketing agency with a foundation in SEO. We offer organic social, paid social, paid search, content marketing, analytics, influencer marketing, online reputation management, voice search, local search, web design, and web development. We create a tailored campaign that is specific to the company we are working with to deliver maximum results.

What strategy according to you will prevail in 2018 for SEO?

Rank Brain will continue to become a growing factor in terms of an artificial intelligence consideration. The mobile first index will probably see a full rollout by end of 2018. Making sure your mobile rankings are as good as a desktop, and your mobile experience is on par with Google standards. Data markup for the coming wave of increasing voice assistants, in this case, Google’s product.

What would your advice be to people who are looking to take up digital marketing as a career choice?

You don’t need formal education. If you want to start, go through all basic guides. Start following relevant thought leadership websites like Search Engine Land and Search Engine Journal. Learn how to use and get certified in analytics platforms. Learn to use search engine webmaster tools, and make sure you are well rounded in other disciplines as well. Use free versions of industry tools to make sure you are comfortable using them. Network with industry professionals and attend free marketing thought leadership events. Most importantly learn by testing, not just generalizing.
