In her spare time, Sinoun is always working on various projects that stimulate her brain – she has more ideas than she can handle. Please introduce yourself and where you work.
My name is Sinoun Chea and I am the owner and founder of ShiftWeb Solutions.
How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years?
Inevitably, SEO has definitely become more user-centric focused. With smarter and more advanced search engine algorithms, Google is able to give users what they want by prioritizing current trends in how we function. For example, the use of mobile devices is undoubtably popular so it makes sense that Google prioritizes sites that are mobile friendly. Another example would be the usefulness of content to users when searching. This pushes Google to love sites that obviously take the time to create useful and readable (non-spammy) content. And one last example would be the rise of local importance. Due to mobile devices, location-specific searches are more common than ever. This also gives local companies a great opportunity to be found in the areas they work in. Because of this trend, Google has taken huge leaps in what and how they display search results.
How did you get introduced to digital marketing, more specifically SEO?
ShiftWeb Solutions started off as a web design company so it was really natural to get introduced to SEO – we really did have a choice! While web design and SEO go hand and hand – they are both very different beasts. Once I was introduced to SEO many years ago, I was first very intrigued. Now, I’m obsessed and hooked! Ha!
What are the services you provide to your clients?
In addition to web design, we provide SEO services that are on a month-to-month basis. You really can’t have a successful SEO campaign without a good and optimized website, so we are able to really provide a holistic service to our clients. We love working with small businesses in particular because they drive the economy. Everyone deserves a chance to be successful and our passion is to help small businesses thrive.
What strategy according to you will prevail in 2018 for SEO?
The strategy should always be about the user. This fact is never going to die. What makes Google successful is because they understand this and they do a great job giving users the content they are looking for. Google is far from perfect, but if people continue to use them to find what they want, it means they must be doing something right. If a business focuses on WHAT a user would want, success is inevitable.
What would your advice be to people who are looking to take up digital marketing as a career choice?
I encourage anyone who is interested in digital marketing to jump in and do it! It’s super fun, interesting, and never boring. In addition, the world of digital marketing will continue to evolve, so you’ll always learn something new. It’s a great career if you love to help others, if you love learning, and if you like being technical, BUT it’s also great if you are creative! It’s seriously a great career to get in. There is a lot of opportunity to grow and make a good living from it!
