Feature Update: Search Snippet Filter

June 21, 2023 | Feature Update

RankWatch recently diversified its Rank Tracking module by adding Knowledge Panel and Google Job Postings to its search snippets metrics, which allowed users to learn about their additional snippet rankings, thereby completing the list:

  1. Local
  2. Images
  3. News
  4. Ads
  5. Videos
  6. Answers
  7. Knowledge
  8. Jobs

What are search snippets?

Search snippets are additional rankings other than organic rankings acquired by your target keywords. These snippets inform you about your keyword’s position in local results, images, news, ads, videos, etc. Also, you can find out if there’s a knowledge panel or featured snippet (answer) for your target keywords.

What’s new?

Now, we have upgraded the module yet again and added a search snippet filter to the Ranking dashboard.

How to use the search snippet filter?

RankWatch collects supplementary information related to each keyword’s position other than organic rankings. These get listed in the Ranking dashboard, which you can access from your RankWatch account.

Once you are on the dashboard, scroll down to find snippets under ‘Keyword Position’.

Different colours are assigned to the snippets for convenient analyses:

  1. Green: Snippets coloured in green signifies that your associated keyword has acquired an additional rank in the highlighted snippets.
  2. Blue: Blue signifies the snippet positions obtained by your competitors for a specific keyword.
  3. Grey: If the snippet is grey instead of green or blue, then that means neither you nor your competitor has acquired any snippet position for the given keyword.

If you want to narrow down the results to track only those keywords that obtained a position in the snippets, you need to click on ‘By Snippet’.

This trigger opens a drop-down menu, where you need to select the snippets as per your requirement.

You can make single or multiple snippet selections and track your keyword’s position accordingly. Also, you are provided with the option to exclude your competitors’ snippet rankings by checking ‘Your Domain Rankings Only’.

Let me help you understand this better with an example.

You want to check the keywords for which your domain has acquired an ‘Answer box’ and ‘Knowledge Panel’. You can make those selections in the drop-down menu and click on ‘Apply’.

Now, a list will be produced that will include only those keywords that are ranking for either an answer box or a knowledge panel in the SERPs.

But in this list, your competitors’ snippets are visible as well (colour coded ‘Blue’). So, if you want to check snippet rankings for your domain only, you need to select ‘Your Domain Ranking Only’ and click on ‘Apply’.

This way only those keywords for which your domain has an ‘Answer box’ and ‘Knowledge Panel’ will be listed excluding your competitors.

How does this functionality help you?

The SERP snippets are an impressive way of driving a massive amount of traffic to your domain. And with the help of this functionality, you can prepare efficient SEO strategies to rank for those snippets. You can use the snippet filter to learn about the keywords for which you and your competitors have already acquired a snippet. You can utilize this knowledge to create content and strategies that can help you rank for other snippets as well and improve your online visibility.
