What Is The Importance Of Rankings Today As Far As You’re Concerned?

Higher rankings for targeted keywords (branded, commercial or informational) have added benefits for the site or brand in general, some of the benefits are:
Brand exposure: Companies that don’t have any offline promotions could greatly benefit from higher search rankings, as target customers would be aware of their unknown products/services.
Increase in potential customers/clients (conversions): Landing pages that rank for commercial keywords could generate more sales, especially if the page itself matches the search query of the user.
Additional brand advocates (email subscribers, social followers, etc.) These people can help the brand grow its community, particularly when these evangelists shared or even linked to content/blog pages of the site from their respective blogs/domains.

SERP is a phrase that can make or break your online marketing campaign. As per the statistics the first page of the SERPs captures 71.33% of the organic search traffic and the top 5 results alone account for 67.60%. What are your favorite strategies to get your site or content ranked in the Google SERPs?

There is no one size fits all strategy for all sites on the web (industry, authority level, site technical and other factors affects how a site could potentially rank in search results).
However, here are a few tested strategies to increase the site’s rankings:
Page speed optimization
Technical analysis and execution
Link pruning/content audit
Link acquisition/link earning

SEO site audit is another important aspect. It ensures your website is SEO friendly and provides your visitors an excellent user experience. What would you say are the 3 critical elements to be covered in an SEO site audit?

SEO site audit should cover the following activities:
Analyzing which pages need to be improved, based on usability, the quality of the information, pagespeed and if the pages exactly answer the queries of the search users.
Content analysis – focusing on enhancing the quality of the information, targeted to a specific audience type as well as fixing technical issues (thin and duplicate content).
Link audit – identifying unnatural links (too much sitewide links, links with over-optimized anchor texts, etc..) and taking some actions to manually remove or disavow them.

With the increasing number of SEO products/services in the market, the process of SEO has become simpler and most of the tasks are now automated. However, there is always scope for development . What features do you think are missing in mainstream SEO tools? Are there any processes you’d love to see automated?

I guess all mainstream SEO tools are doing a great job in automating the robotic side of some SEO phases. For other search activities like manual analysis of links and content quality, these things should only be done with a human hand and naked eyes.

Blogging is one of the cheapest ways to generate traffic and leads for your website. It helps to position yourself as an authority in the industry. Entrepreneurs should not limit blogging to their own website. They need to generate high quality inbound links from top blogs in their industry, and this is where guest blogging (unpaid links) and sponsored blogging (sponsored links) come into play. What are your views on sponsored blogs vs. guest blogs?

Link buying is against Google’s guidelines.
While there are niches that are saturated by bloggers that accept payments before they even link to your blog/content, there are still other ways you can do in order for them to naturally link to your site (e.g. creating 10x content that is comprehensive and actionable).

Guest blogs provide you with valuable backlinks but they could sometimes lack depth. Do you think guest blogs will be ignored by Google in the future as they are often fairly thin content-wise?

The term, guest blogging will be saturated soon. But the act of contributing to someone’s relevant blog would still continue for years to come (look at Forbes and Inc regular contributors). Being a regular contributor is an ethical work, and thus, I guess, won’t be ignored by Google in the future.

Conclusion:

Ranking: Ranking on a SERP page will get you better brand exposure. It will increase your potential customers and thus result in additional brand advocates. There is no fixed strategy to help you rank as this depends on your industry.   However, there are a few tactics that remain the same such as page speed optimisation, link pruning/content audits and link acquisitions.

On-page: SEO site audit is important to analyse which page needs improvements, based on usability. Another thing to keep in mind is content analysis. Ensure that your website is SEO friendly. There are many tools that can automate these tasks for you. But some search activities need to be analysed by human eyes to achieve the best results.

Off-page: Sponsored and guest blogs are more or less the same. But as long as you deliver quality relevant content for your readers, guest blogging plays an important role. Also it is not just about getting backlinks, it is also about sustaining your visitors. This can be done through quality content which Google can never ignore.
