On Page Optimization Techniques

The practice of optimizing individual web pages or a website to result in getting higher search engine ranking and driving more organic traffic. On the other hand, Off-page SEO refers to links and other external signals including social shares.

You might have come across many articles discussing on-page optimization factors and techniques. Below are those common as well as basic on-page optimization factors and techniques which I don’t want to crunch in detail further killing your time.

Most Familiar On-Page Optimization factors

  1. Site responsiveness and quick navigation
  2. Page Title, Meta Description, Meta Tag, Anchor Text, image alt tag,
  3. Placing Keyword in the permalink, exact domain match,
  4. Proper heading tags, sufficient Keyword placements,
  5. Comprehensive Keyword research,
  6. Loading speed optimization,
  7. Having robots.txt, Sitemap,
  8. Optimizing Post titles, content-length, outbound links,
  9. Using Social share buttons, and so on.

Still, there are some less common but crucial strategies to optimize your web page that directly or indirectly improves your SERP. Let’s get into it.

Exceptional On-Page Optimization techniques

#1 Generate User-generated Content

You might have known the significance of getting more comments on your blog posts. Readers would leave their comments if they really appreciate it or have any clarifications. On the other hand, few may be contributing short comments in a single line. Even, that’s good.

The upfront advantage of having such blog comments from your readers may drastically increase your content length. For example, around 100 users visiting your page and leaving comments for an average of 10 words each. You may get even lengthier comments depend on your content uniqueness. Let’s consider the minimal, 100 users generating 10 words each come around 1000 words. If your post content length is already 2000 words, another 1000 words added now.

However, Google treats the post content and blog comment content from different eyes. You can see Brian Dean’s blog posts, the blog post content may be around 3000, and his blog comments content will be more than that. Even twice or thrice than his actual blog posts content.

On Page Optimization Techniques

Now the question, how to make use of this comments to help to optimize your on-page?

From the keyword research, you will have target keywords in hand. But the users who are leaving comments may not be mandatorily using your target keywords in their comments. Once your blog post is generating some decent number of comments, add target keywords in that comments that are awaiting moderation.

However, keyword placing should be natural. You should not dump keywords. Then, you will have to lose your credits instead you will get penalized. Attempt only if you could make it naturally. Else, I do not suggest.

Now you have got longer as well as optimized keyword content. By this, you could see significant improvement in your site traffic.

#2 Link pages internally with Silo Architecture

Internal linking is a widely spread on-page optimization technique. Link juice passing between the pages that internally linked to and from will boost your page ranking. In this section, I am about to share how to optimize such internal linking to engage more visitors. You can be quickly fed search engines too with relevancy to crawl your pages more.

The process of organizing your web pages and posts on a hierarchical basis or content relevancy refers to website silo architecture. You can have multiple posts that discusses almost same topic mapped under a single category. Create a primary silo page on that topic same as category name and interlink between those posts and main silo pages. This type of internal linking will generate more relevancy signals and favors search engines to crawl your pages in-depth.

On Page Optimization Techniques

Also, your readers can enjoy easy navigation through all your pages hassle free and to get more information on the topic for which they get into your website. You can engage your readers with complete information making them stick on to your page.

For instance, a user visiting your page about “unique on-page SEO techniques”; you can link from another post like “Complete on-page factors and strategies,” “How crucial is on-page optimization?” and similar posts. It will be easy for your users to navigate between these pages with talking about similar topics and will find it interesting. You may interlink all these posts to and from the main silo page “On-Page.”

The integral part is; you can have sitewide links on the homepage to all the silo pages using this silo structure of internal linking. It may be in sidebars or navigation bars. Here you can check out for the detailed guide to implementing silo structure.

#3 Employ Interactive Content Strategy

Do you continue reading if an article or a web page is with complicated words for which you will have to refer dictionary to know the meaning of each word? The intricate sentence structure, poor vocabulary usage may result in such an article hard to understand. Indeed, you will not. Even, I won’t.

To readers to have appealing reading experience, the content reading level is a crucial factor. Even your content may be free from spelling mistakes and stay in line with grammar rules; readability may be still low. Reading level or readability score refers to how hard or more accessible to the reader that content is. Higher the score is easier to understand.

How to know the readability score of your content and to improve it further?

On Page Optimization Techniques

If you are using Yoast plug-in of WordPress, then you might have noticed the “Flesch Reading Ease Test” under Readability. In which, you will get color notifications letting you know your content readability. It also highlights the sentence which can be improved further. Most often, people won’t pay attention to fix those errors to improve the quality of content.

Either you will have to check the sentence formation, sentences starting similarly, or more to fix it and make your content so simpler and easy to read by your audience.

I usually prefer Grammarly tool for this purpose which helps me to fix my errors and to improve my readability score out of 100. From this free online tool, you can get almost crystal clear piece of content with higher readability score. Google even takes the reading level of material into account and considers for ranking. It is a basic and must to do optimization to boost search engine ranking reducing bounce rate or dwell time.

Moreover, instead of writing bored; it is great to write as you talk in-person. Interactive write-ups with Q&A sections, intuitive words or phrases, table of contents, etc. While preparing content, consider writing it with higher reading level and more interactive which makes content marketing viable.

#4 Scatter LSI keywords throughout your posts content

LSI keywords are the phrases or synonyms or related word to the primary or focus keyword. LSI keywords make search engines to know about your webpage’s particular topic and what it deals with. Consider you are searching for Ginger software for proofreading and searching as “Ginger,” the search engines may show you the results for “Ginger Spice.” How can search engines differentiate and come up with proper and relevant results?

For instance, focus keyword may be of “Windows 2018”. It may refer to both Microsoft Windows as well as House windows. If your page is really about House windows, then your LSI keywords may be “Glass windows for houses,” “Arc-shaped wooden windows” and so on. With these LSI keywords spreading throughout your posts content, search engines will find it much easier to crawl your page and to show it on the SERP.

You can get these LSI keywords from Google instant search query as you type, or at the bottom of SERP as “Searches related to” or from competitor analysis using Ahrefs.

Don’t you think this would be quite easier and workable technique to get ranking for your target keyword? Obviously, Yes. I am a successful executor of this one and getting far better results to outrank competitor’s keywords.

#5 Use Multimedia increasing user engagements

Videos or any pictorial representation would claim user’s attention than vague text content. User engagement is a vital factor that Google considers to rank your web page. You might or not knowing that Google monitors every piece of information like IP addresses, browser, browsing time, country, time spent by a user on the particular page, mouse pointer stays on specific positions, etc.. Hence, you will have to do something unique to improve your page views and user engagement.

You can add featured images and insert alt tag to increase keyword density. How can videos differently support to boost your on-page SEO?

On Page Optimization Techniques

It’s simple. Embed content related video in your blog posts. For instance, 1000 visitors spending 3 minutes each on your text-based content whereas 100 visitors out of that 1000 spending 2 minutes on your embedded video (if you are embedding around 5 minutes). Rest 900 users spending 3 minutes on your text and leaving. The average time spent on your page in the earlier case is 3 minutes whereas in the latter one is 3.2 minutes. This 0.2 speaks a lot.

Embedding a video will have a significant impact. Google pays a lot of significance to the user’s engagement on a web page, and on that, it decides the quality of the page. Eventually, ranks your page at the top position.

Conclusion

In addition to the typical on-page optimization techniques, attempt these less common strategies too that will get you drastic improvement in your on-page optimization boosting SERP ranking and driving massive organic traffic. To summarize; generating more blog comments, proper internal linking, casual content writing strategy, sprinkling LSI keywords, using multimedia, are best actionable and simpler techniques. It indeed works for me, and hopefully, this would be more helpful for you too and works well. Do employ and let me know your views or if any clarifications, mark your comments below.
